His web series Empire (2021) ran into trouble with a section of the audience who accused the makers of glorifying the Islamic invader Babur. Aditya played the role of Babur’s son Humayun in the show. He defended the show by saying that it was based on a book and that they had taken some liberties. He also said that if anyone had a problem with the show, they should go back and change history.
He also faced some trolling and memes for comparing his film Student of the Year 2 (2019) with the Hollywood film Avengers: Endgame (2019). He said that both films were about the culmination of a journey and that people should appreciate the hard work of the actors. He later clarified that he did not mean to compare the two films in terms of budget or scale, but only in terms of emotions.
