Aimee Baruah is an actress, producer, and director who hails from the small town of Raha in the Nagaon district of Assam. She was born to Purna Baruah and Mala Baruah on 21 October. Her father was a superintendent of police and her mother was a housewife. She lost her father in 2017.

Aimee started her acting career as a child artist when she was in grade six. She appeared in her first feature film, Axomor Sadhukotha when she was 14 years old. She later earned a master’s degree in sociology and a gold medal in economics. Pursuing her PhD at Gauhati University, she is dedicated to studying the cinematic works of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, in addition to his roles as a singer and musician.

Aimee married BJP politician and Minister Pijush Hazarika on 1 October 2011. They have two young children.

Aimee is a National Film Award-winning actor-director. Her directorial debut was the Dimasa language film Semkhor, which also won two National Awards at the 68th National Film Awards. She also became the first actress from Assam to walk down the red carpet at the 75th Cannes Film Festival. The 17th edition of the Mumbai International Film Festival awarded her documentary film, Screaming Butterflies, with the coveted Silver Conch accolade.
