His father owned a traveling Parsi theatre company, and his mother was an Urdu teacher and a trained classical singer. Annu Kapoor’s early life was marked by his family’s involvement in the arts and his exposure to a mix of cultural influences.

The family history of Annu Kapoor is marked by his grandfather’s service as a doctor in the British Army, Dr. Kripa Ram Kapoor, and the martyrdom of his great-grandfather, Lala Ganga Ram Kapoor, during the Indian freedom movement.
