Asha Parekh Childhood and Background:

Asha Parekh was born on October 2, 1942, in Mumbai (then Bombay), Maharashtra, India, into a middle-class Gujarati family. Her father, Bachubhai Parekh, was a Jain from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, and her mother, Sudha Parekh, came from the Bohra Muslim community. Her parents doted on her, as she was their only child.

Her mother enrolled her in classical dance classes at an early age, and she trained under several teachers, including Pandit Bansilal Bharati. Asha began performing on stage as a child and made her film debut as a child artist in the 1952 film “Aasmaan” under the screen name Baby Asha Parekh. She continued to act in a few more child roles before taking a break to focus on her schooling.

At the age of 16, she attempted to make her debut as a heroine but was initially rejected for not being “star material”. However, she soon got her big break when Nasir Hussain cast her in “Dil Deke Dekho” (1959) opposite Shammi Kapoor, which catapulted her to stardom.
